In 1902 Mellon National Bank was organized, taking over the assets
and assuming the liabilities of T. Mellon & Son's Bank. "The Bank"
grew physically, taking over the entire block from Fifth Avenue to
Oliver Ave. April, 1922 moved across Smithfield St. for the
construction of The Mellon National Building (1924- ) on the
block previously occupied by the "iron front" building. The Mellon
National Bank merged into its parent The Union Trust Company in 1946
as Mellon National Bank & Trust Co.
